Money Savings :: Tip #1

Admittedly I may not be able to come up with any further tips, but this little gem has been sitting in my memory bank for a few days now.

The Background: This past weekend when I was in Huntington Beach I forgot to bring my shaving gel.  Stupid airline liquid regulations!  I already had to buy hair spray and didn't want to waste more money on shaving gel, so I was really irritated.  Then I remembered something a friend told me...

The Tip: use hair conditioner as lubricant for shaving.  Normally I am a real picky shaver, gel is the only thing for me.  I admit I have shopped around trying to find the best deal because at about $2.00 a bottle, it can get pricey.  I even recently purchased it in bulk at Costco thinking I was saving, but in the end it was about the same as buying the Wal*Mart brand.  Anyway, I used basic conditioner and it worked swimmingly!  I was really impressed and it made my legs super duper soft and moisturized.  And in the ridiculously dry west I was so excited about that!

Now, for the money savings: I don't use grocery store conditioner on my hair, so I never have it lying around.  And there is NO WAY I was using my expensive salon product as shaving lube, talk about wasting money!  On with the story...I was at Kroger the other night and saw that they had Suave conditioner on sale for $1.  And I thought "duh! That is an easy savings over the cost of shaving gel!"  It may not be much, but any savings is still savings, right?  And, if memory serves me correctly, I think Wal*Mart sells it for less than $1...wawhoo!

The Confession: I do not remember which friend gave me this fabulous tip so many years ago.  I am sorry now that I didn't take it more seriously.  Just think how much money I could have saved over the years!

If it was you and you want some credit just leave me a message and I'll give a shout out.

As for this becoming a regular weekly segment on my blog...we shall see...we shall see!

An ALMOST update

Hi y'all.  I finally made it home from Huntington Beach (oh the pain of flying stand-by) and had a great time while I was there.  Lots to share and photos to post, but right now I have to worry about the end of this semester and finals starting tomorrow.

SO, this is one of those posts that you hate to read because it has no relevant content what-so-ever, but instead just says hey, check in later as if you wouldn't already be doing that.

Yeah, so...check in later!

Oh alright, I'll share just one photo now...but only one!

I know, I know...the shirt is a bit loud.  I thought it was cute, now that I see it in photos, I'm not so sure.  Anyway, here I am at the beach...I'm not sure which beach, but a beach.  It was windy and cold and not at all what I am used to when it comes to being at the beach.  Oh how I love the hot & humid south!

More later...must sleep now...2:22 a.m. yikes!

na na na na...na na na na...hey hey hey, goodbye!

I'm leaving in the morning.  Headed here:

Huntington Beach, CA.

I am going there on VACATION!
To chil-lax and enjoy the beach.
Because we don't have perfectly lovely beaches (with much better weather, might I add) right here in Georgia?!?!

There is this other thing there, but I'm not going to mention it.  Because this is a VACATION, that's all.

Who goes on vacation the last week of the semester?  The week before finals?
Yours truly.
What an idiot.
How did I get talked into this?

Love you Patti...I'm sure we will have a great time and it's a darn good thing.

Yes, the 6 hour plane ride will be spent writing an assignment for News Reporting & Writing, a presentation and paper for Research and studying for finals.

In support of Miss California

Let's talk about the Miss America Pageant!

I am proud of Miss California, Carrie Prejean, for giving her honest opinion even though she didn't actually answer the question.  I used to read Perez Hilton's blog, but then one day I thought "this is garbage, why am I reading this?  And why the freak do I care what this idiot thinks?  And for that matter why do I care what all the celebrities are doing?" my life is WAY more exciting anyway and I stopped at that moment.

Today I saw THIS commentary on CNN.com and really appreciated what Roland Martin said.

Shout out to Carrie! No more "Pageant Patty" answers!  Love it!!!

Thoughts?

New(ish) hairdo

Having a hair dresser for a sister is a dangerous thing when you get bored with your hair often.  The last few months we have been doing little things, letting it grow, cutting a little hear, cutting long bangs there.  I can't be pleased and I'm headed out of town this Thursday and decided I needed to make up my mind about a style.  This is the result:

Kelly is amazing...she made me look JUST like the picture of Tiffani Amber Thiessen I brought in...ha! ha!

A Green Thumb

I dream of having a bit of earth.  I would plant rows and rows of vegetables and every evening I would pull on my overalls and take my picking basket to the bit of earth and search for treasures.  I would make my own red sauce for pasta, fresh salsa (like only we Shores' can make) and I would try to duplicate that squash casserole Dad made when we were young.  YummY!

Mom told me once that she gardened when she was pregnant with me.  I bet that is why I
L-O-V-E
love the smell of soil and the feel of it under my nails.  Who cares that I just got a manicure?  Oh, me...that's why I bought these super cute gloves to
a) fight breast cancer
&
b) keep my pointers pretty.

I had a little helper with me today too:

Don't worry, the rake hadn't been used yet.  I am not quite sure why I bought it, I guess I figured I would need it.  Guess I did.

And now finally...the actual proof, I do have a green thumb:

Look how dirty my gloves are after I was finished.  Good thing I had those, hu?!

In total I planted:
(2) bell pepper plants
(2) cucumber plants
(1) tomato plant

I am super excited to see how they do.  Rhett only needs to be fed once or twice a week, I hope I remember to water my patio garden.

I'll post progress reports as things start to grow.

Sister of the Day Award goes to Anne...for answering all my "what in the freak am I doing?" calls.  You rock!

And the SISTER OF THE DAY award goes to...

Today I was talking to (my sister) Kelly.  This is pretty much a daily occurrence, so nothing unusual.  We talked about how I would come home tonight and clean my kitchen because it was looking real bad.  She said that she might bring Charley over so we could all hang out since Justin had to work late.

Approximately 2 hours later I received the following picture mail:

This is a picture of my kitchen.
Let me rephrase, my...CLEAN kitchen.

KELLY CLEANED MY KITCHEN!
How much does SHE rock?!?!

I was with my boss Marci when I received the picture mail and called Kelly to tell her how amazing she was and Marci said, "is she up for adoption?"

I have 5 amazing sisters (and 2 fantastic brothers) but today's...
SISTER OF THE DAY AWARD goes to...
Kelly!

Thank you so much for cleaning my messy kitchen.  Love you!

Back pack weight:

On the aforementioned date, my back pack weighed 23 pounds.  This was when it held my laptop and three (of my 7 books) as well as my three-ring-binder.

That is almost like carrying Charley around on my back all day.  I would of course, prefer to carry Charley.

Good times.  Good times.

Just because...

Easter 2009

Mom & Dad came into town for Easter, it was nice to see them and spend time with everyone.  We missed the Burns & Nicki.  John & Claire stayed home too, but here are some pictures of (most of) the rest of the gang:

Updates of randomness...

I. Am. Tired.

But to play catch up, here are a few items of randomness:

I (finally) finished crocheting a blanket for my niece Alex.  I have a goal to make blankets for all my nieces & nephews this year.  After making two, I am not sure how realistic that goal is.  Here is Alex's blanket:

I understand she is very fond of the blanket and Caroline even told her it's the good kind of blanket with holes for your fingers!  love it!

I made a cake for my friend's daughter's birthday:

The party had a luau theme and I have it on good authority that the flip flops were a hit!

My back has been hurting pretty bad lately, so I weighed my backpack today...Any guesses on how much it weighs?

Stupid People

I like reading CNN.com because there are always interesting stories about random things to go along with the actual news.  Today there was an extra special treat:

Yes, that woman climbed the wall and JUMPED into the polar bear exhibit.

I sure hope this makes it to Fail Blog.

Thankful Thursday

I have not had much time to post lately, so I thought I would take a quick moment before a much needed few hours rest to post my...

Tonight I am THANKFUL for Anne :: for editing my resume again.

Tonight I am THANKFUL that I had a package of resume paper and didn't have to go to Wal*Mart at 1:32 in the morning.

Tonight I am THANKFUL that the bathroom still works even though it is a disaster, that the dishwasher has clean dishes in it and that although it is not folded or hung, I actually have clean clothes to wear.
