craftiness

Tonight I bought items for craftiness on my Wild Wednesday's with J&J's girls.

Paper plates...you can make all sorts of things with paper plates!
Pipe cleaners...for legs on those egg carton caterpillars. I'm sure there will be other things too!
Chocolate pudding..."dirt"
Gummy worms...that will go into the "dirt"
hmm, maybe I need some cookies for rock crumbs too.
Blue Jello...can't seem to locate gummy fish. Imagine how cute those aquariums will be!
Crayons...did you know they are only $0.25 a box. I am sure I will find mine in the cavernous abyss of my closet tomorrow.
Kid scissors...a must have!

Wal-Mart did not have mini taco shells, but John assures me I will not need them, they will eat every last bite of a Big Girl Taco! I just thought they would be cute.

So on the menu this week tacos, beans and some dirt and worms. Yummy!

Aunt Jo let me borrow her fabric markers so the girls can draw on their "Get Messy Shirts" this week. She also stocked me up with a few weeks worth of Disney/Little friendly movies.

I need to narrow down the paper plate craft for the week and I think we're set!

I know...you are all waiting with baited breath for my late week post with all the exciting photos!

Casualty of a cookie disaster

I like to bake. For the most part I have success in most things baked. Why cooking is so different, I am not quite sure, but I foresee cooking classes in my future.

After last night, baking classes may be necessary too!

I have been on this cookie crusade for some time now. I have a friend who left on his mission a few months ago and he is in great need of a care package from me. I have another friend who knows nothing of a mission, but I adore him anyway and wish I were near him. He too is in great need of a care package from me. My hope was to send a feast of cookies out west for Justin and up north for that other guy.

This week I made a double batch of (sister) Sarah's cookie recipe. Kelly and I decided it lacks the proper amount of flour so we always add more, until we feel it's at the right place in that department. I guess I added too much flour, because they tasted, well, woody and dry. The dough was even too dry, you can easily tell:

I made a few dozen with this batch of dough, but they were not really that great. The girls didn't mind (Jenna loves her some cookies!) so I sent them home with them on Wednesday.

Last night I decided I would make a brand new batch of dough, add NO flour and begin adding the original cookie batter with excess flour. It didn't look like too much of a mess:

...until I baked a few test cookies:

I finally decided that since the batter didn't taste horrible, I would try to bake a sheet cake. Yeah, not a great idea either.

It baked for 20 minutes and was burnt on top and not cooked enough on the bottom. I cooked it more...and it was even more burnt on top and still not cooked enough on the bottom. It sits in my large red trash can as I type.

The worst part is the casualty of cookie disaster:

Just look at that...Tony's whisk is broken! Now I am going to have to order a new one.

blah! ugh! & good grief!

Wired Wednesday's

As I may have mentioned once or twice, this is my last semester of school.

It also happens that my sis-in-law Jamiee is back in school now that my bro is all finished with his Masters (yeah John!).

This particular semester she has a class on M/W evenings. Between her mother and I, we are watching their girls on those days until John comes to pick them up after work. I'm super excited to spend Wednesday afternoon/eve with them every week, who knows where I will end up after I get finished with school and I may not be around this part of the world to see them all the time.

This week was our first Wednesday together and we had a good 'ol time! I don't have many children's movies so I ventured out Tuesday night to the previously viewed movie selection at the local movie rental store. I found Kung Fu Panda...and that was pretty much it. A pretty sad selection of children's movies indeed...although I did find Marley & Me and I can't wait to watch it.

So Jamiee brought the girls over about 3 p.m. and they jumped right into playing with my sad selection of toys. (I would get some more, but I have NO WHERE to put them. Maybe I should get rid of some stuff.) After mom left they found their cozy spots on the couch and intently watched Kung Fu Panda without interruption. These girls love movies, I am amazed at how they will watch an entire movie without hardly moving!

I was busy in the kitchen trying to get things ready for dinner and Claire was happily entertained with the toys all to herself.

Eventually Claire got fussy, (mostly when I had to stop her from chewing on my wooden shoes. Note to self: put non-chewables up high Wed. afternoons.) so she joined me in the kitchen to help with dinner.

I'm not quite sure why her mouth is open...I was trying to make her smile and she just stared at me like that for almost a full minute! And notice the doll in her hand? I think she thought it was a funny game to see how many times her aunt would pick up the doll after she dropped it. Jenna came in and started picking it up, but if I had any guess, that doll might still be on the kitchen floor right now.

Eventually the girls came to see if I had finished making the fruit dip and ended up staying long enough to give Monte a run for his money. (found some fabulous color pages HERE)

Kung Fu Panda finished up just in time for dinner. So we ate (sorry...no photos, my hands were full.) and during dinner Abbi said "you're a good cooker!"...how sweet. Little does she know I am the worst cook I know.

Dinner that night was actually a pretty good go at doctoring an earlier in the week pasta disaster! It's amazing what a little Italian diced tomatoes, sour cream and diced chicken can do to pasta! Add biscuits, fresh sliced apples and pineapple with homemade fruit dip and you have yourself some mediocre tasting goodness.

I will say this, dinner was the hardest part of the evening. I'm no mom and struggled to keep food on plates or in mouths, the youngest from jumping out of her Bumbo chair, fed and happy (a particular challenge since she wanted nothing to do with her baby food) and making sure they consumed more than just pineapple (Jenna is crazy for fruit!) was hard work.

Not to mention I detest my kitchen. It is dreadful. It is small. It is dirty, no matter how hard I clean it. I HATE it. We may have to have a "picnic" or two on the living room floor!

After dinner we started our t-shirt project. I have been meaning (for quite some time) to make t-shirts for all my littles. I had this great idea for iron-on applique type decor and well...life took over and the t-shirts went in a box and never showed their empty head holes. That is...until my recent trip into the cavernous abyss of my closet. It was on this trip that I realized I own fabric paint! So I dug out the t-shirts and figured why not make "Stay at Aunt Kathy House" t-shirts?! A.K.A. "get dirty so our real clothes won't be ruined shirts. I know, I'm brilliant!)

Well, we started with names. Next week they will add their own touch and hopefully I can manage to let them to it by themselves. My house is just not kid mess friendly and it scares me. (I don't know if this paint would come out of my light tan couch.)

I did find these great foam boards in my cavernous abyss like closet, so we shall use those for all future sitting on the floor projects. (I have some rock animal ideas that will take glue and paint...pray for me!)

All in all I think things went great. It has got to cool off some so we can maybe take a trip OUTSIDE of this tiny apartment. And on some days I will go to their house, which will be nice too.
If you have any fun and relatively simple craft projects that you think would be entertaining, feel free to leave a comment with details or shoot me an email. I am not above taking a field trip if time permits, but we'll see.

For dinner next week they have requested taco's. This is no surprise, since a main staple of food in our family has always been Mexican cuisine. I am hoping to find some mini taco shells. Anyone know where I can purchase those?

T-Mobile Dance Rehearsal

I am already working on a project for school (no worries, I volunteered to be this early in the semester). What I am presenting to the class are different techniques that advertisers use (ie. downplaying, intensification, etc.) While researching I found this T-Mobile Dance Rehearsal and I had to share:

You're Welcome!

the FIRST day of my LAST semester...CHECK!

Well, it's done. It's over. It's history. The FIRST day of my LAST semester is complete and I am one day closer to graduation!
Hallelujah!

And my day was THAT much better because those little humans (& their mom) up in Michigan sent their aunt...
The Official Last Semester (until your Masters Degree) Survival Kit.

I was so excited to open it I didn't even wait to leave the post office. I received so much great stuff, but the best were drawings from everyone. The art work is now sitting pretty on my refrigerator where it belongs.

Thank you my littles...I love you!

the FIRST day of my LAST semester...

...until I go back for my Masters at least.

yeah!

Yes, tomorrow is the FIRST day of my LAST semester of school. In December I will receive my Bachelors degree (baring no unforeseen problems, of course). I am so freaking excited and a little sad in a way. It is bitter sweet that I didn't do this back when I could have had more fun. None the less...I did it...oh wait, I'm still doing it. But it is almost starting to feel real.

wish me luck!

I Wanna Get Married

If I ever get to have that first dance...I want to hear this song as we twirl on the dance floor.

This is the sort of music I was born for. It makes me so happy.

my little's + 1 (dia tres!)

Day three was a little hard. I had already promised them a (HUGE) surprise in the afternoon, but we were all a little impatient and it being Wednesday we were already struggling to stay entertained.

In the morning we ventured to the library again to return some of our books and stock up on movies. Who needs Blockbuster when the library has them for FREE!

So...on to the surprise. The day before, when I forced them to stay in my teeny tiny living room and watch Harry Potter, I was busy searching the Internet for something...ANYTHING! to do the following day. I tried with all my might to find a pick your own farm that still had fruit of some kind...no luck! ugh. And it is so hot outside I couldn't stomach another park, no matter how nifty the toys are. That's when I had the idea for this fun fill 2 hours of excitement: The South Cobb Aquatics Center! It's not just a pool...it's kid heaven!

You should have seen their faces when they saw the water toys...it was so freaking exciting! I thought they were going to jump out of their skin. Seriously.

The open swim was only for 2 hours, but that's all we needed because we were pretty worn out after a zillion zips down the super fast water slide, dozens of crazy rounds about the lazy river, more jumps off the diving board than could be scored by the judge (me) and taking over as lead H2O engineer at Water Town! It was awesome!

Even I took a few spins on the slide and let me tell you...it was great! I spent most of my time on the lazy river, it was just a little tiny river, but it was nice and that was fine by me. I trusted the life guards, but I could also see the Little's from there too, which made me feel better. And after a few zips down the slide they would come rest in the river too. It really was a lot of fun for 2 hours and for $2/child & $3/adult...I thought it was a great way to spend our time and money.

Well, that's the end of day three...and the end of my three days with my Little's + 1.

love you guys!

my little's + 1 (dia dos!)

On day two we went to Aunt Kelly's to get our hair cut. Afterward we went to my apartment so I could use the Internet. The Littles + 1 watched Harry Potter. Then we went back to their house. It was a long day and no photos were taken. Boring. Sorry.

my little's + 1 (dia uno!)

I was lucky enough to spend three days with 3 of my littles (+ 1 neighbor) for a few days this week. We had a good time and tried to stay occupied and out of the house so we wouldn't drive each other crazy. We spent THREE HOURS at the library on Monday without even blinking an eye. And if it weren't for our tummies yelling at us, we probably would have stayed a bit longer.

We had planned ahead and packed a lunch and even though we were in the shade at a pavilion at the park, the heat and flies were enough to encourage the scarfing of sandwiches and rushing to play on the toys.

We didn't even last on the toys but for just a few minutes, it was just too hot! We did manage to stop by some fun trees and pose for the paparazzi before we jetted for home for some much needed quiet time.

Here are just a few of the fun shots from that day:

Mads watching the ducks below. Next time we need to remember the bread.
The best smile I could get from T.
The Gang on the Teeter Totter.
Don't let the look of that thing fool you...it is a giant among tiny teeters!
They should call is The Speed Monster!
I braved the center island to take a few shots.
Mads & T
Han & Ri...the sun was a SO bright!
I love this pic...caught T off guard, but got a GQ smile out of him.
And I know the color is a little weird because he was sitting in a yellow tube, but I rather like it.
I know he has teeth...I've seen them.
Ri was hiding under the jungle gym in the shade.
Han fit right in like she was born into the family...posed for pictures without being asked!
Mads...it's hard to smile when the sun makes it difficult to open your eyes.
Han was set on getting her pic taken while climbing this tree...in her flip flops!
That's as far as she mad it.
The Littles loved this tree. They called it, The Tree of Life.
We would have gotten a lot cooler pictures if The Tree of Life hadn't been covered in ants & bugs.

The park we were at is quite large and has a walking trail around the perimeter so there are a lot of big open spaces.
I told the Littles to walk out onto the hill.
I love, love, love these next pictures!
(Han was busy talking to me while they were walking so they waited for her to catch up.)
Ready...Set...
RUN!

Not quite sure what Han was going for here.
Pretty Ri.
Not long after I bought my Nikon the Littles figured out that my camera is fancy enough to catch them mid jump...in the air!
Since then, the minute I get it out it's always a jumping contest. It got to the point that we don't look at the pictures until they are downloaded onto the computer. It's funny to see what we come up with in the end.
They found this cement stump of sorts and we managed to get some really great jumping shots.
Here are my favorites:

I shot this one while I was sitting on the ground after taking the jumping shots.
I love how the blue sky and super white clouds frame her face.
Aah, a kiss for you aunt! Thanks T.

OK. That's all for day one. Day two & three are on the way.
