The end table that was once wood

I know the title of this post has absolutely NOTHING to do with a washer/dryer.
Oh well.
My blog...my posts...my post titles.

I had to share my Christmas present to myself...

Aren't they pretty?
I know, they are just a washer and a dryer, but they are mine and they are new.
Now I can wear clean clothes!

Back to our regularly schedule program...

A few weeks ago I found this little "wood" table on Craigslist.
I asked the guy if it was actually wood and he said yes.
I doubted he had a clue, so I asked him again.
Again, he said yes.

The table was only $10 so I figured it was worth it.
I really wanted to stain it so I really wanted it to be wood.
I got to the guys place and he brought down the table.
I looked at him (like the idiot he is) and said, "That's not wood, it's press-board."
Then I smacked him across the face wearing brass knuckles...
Kicked him in the gut with my four inch heels...
Then showed him my One-Handed Bulldog to make him think twice about wood.
Idiot.
I'm a chick and I know more about wood than this dude?!
Sure, it was once wood...in another lifetime. Just not THIS lifetime.
This also meant I would not be able to stain the piece for my bedroom.
Fine, I need a table for the living room and again $10. Fine.

Here is it in the original state (not cute):

$20 and a number of hours later here is the final product:

I like it fine, but I hate painting things brown.
I don't mind other colors, like my kitchen chairs are now white...thank you spray paint.
But if something is going to be brown then it might as well be the color of the wood or actual wood stained. But again, this is not actually wood.

Needless to say it serves its purpose well, holding the lamp.
I remembered the other day that it has drawers (shut up) so they are now hiding a few things that didn't have a home.

And there you have it. Don't trust stupid boys. Period.

When you get tired of the brown, you could always paint it a fun accent color. Red is nice...
