The weekend and a new apartment

This weekend was bound to be a complete craze with all the things I needed to get done around my new apartment. I am so grateful for (brother) Levi and puppy Axel who came over to take care of some of the things my husband should be here to take care of, but he is lost.

First he installed my new shower head...

Halle-freaking-lujah!

I know, you would think this is something I could do on my own, because I actually have many times. But this time I couldn't get the old shower head off the bloody pipe! I could have gone out and purchased the proper tools, but Thankfully Levi had them and made it happen like magic. Now I don't feel like I am trying to rinse my hair with a squirt gun.

After a trip to Home Depot he put some support brackets in the closet so I would feel better about this:

Isn't it beautiful?!
That's a rhetorical question.
That is not all of my shoes, but it is most and I even have room for more!
As I put each pair on the shelf I also took a photo and will print and mount them to the front of the box so I can see which pair is inside. I can't wait to get this project done, it's been on the list for a while.

Levi also installed a digital thermostat for me and I am SO EXCITED I can hardly stand it.
Before my heat was literally running all the time and I could not tell what the actual temperature was set on or what the temperature in the apartment was for that matter.
Since he installed the digital unit the heat has hardly been on at all and I can kick it up only one degree and have it take the nip out of the air. As opposed to before when the kick would toss it up five degrees or so. Who knew I could be so happy over such a little tiny change. The apartment complex must have an arrangement with the power company, otherwise they would already install the $25 digital unit in the apartment to begin with.

After Levi left I installed a mirror in my bedroom. You know how studs are supposed to be spaced ever 16 inches? Well it should come as no surprise to anyone that I couldn't find my stud!

Dad taught me this trick in my last apartment (that was built in the early 1900s) so I measured out the 16 inches and tried my first nail.
Fail.
Over about an inch and tried again.
Fail.
As you can see I failed a few times.
That stud was so far off from the 16 inch mark that it felt a little too much like reality to me.
I finally managed to get the mirror hung and with the exception that it is not evenly centered with my bed, it turned out just fine.

I guess I need a stud finder more than I realized.

The funnest part of my weekend was Friday night when I had a date with Madeline & Tanner for a birthday dinner. They decided on hibachi and we managed to enjoy ourselves despite our lack of skill in the chopstick department.

After dinner we wasted some time at Wal-Mart looking for exciting ways to spend money. Our goal was anything under $5 and both T & Mads were happy with their finds.

Well, that just about does it for the weekend. Eventually I will unpack enough boxes to feel comfortable taking a few pictures of my apartment, but that will have to wait.

I'm off to South Carolina tomorrow for work and then the 'Rents will be in for Thanksgiving. I am so excited for Turkey Day, I seriously haven't been this excited in years. Couldn't tell you why, but I like it.

Oh MY! Had I know the shelf needed to support that, I would have put some all-thread rods up into the ceiling joists!

Just kidding... it should be fine. Great idea for shoe storage! While you're taking pictures, take a series the boxes put in place one by one, and then flip-book style it into a movie.

LOVE the closet pic! It is beautiful and I thought that before I even read your note. So glad you have a "hubby sub" there ;) ...I sure could use one!
LOVE YOU!

Laughing out loud at your 'find the stud' image. Totally something that would happen to me.

We love our pre-programmed thermostat!
