30 Day Writer's Challenge | Day 8

It was dark when I got home tonight and young girls with flashlights approached me from the neighbors yard.

Girl 1: casually "Have you seen a little girl in a pink shirt?"

Me: casually concerned "No. Is she lost?"

Girl 2: passively "She is my sister and she is missing."

Me: paniced "Oh no! Are you the only two looking for her?"

Girl 2: nonchalantly "Yeah" waving her flashlight around

Me: frantically reaching for my phone to dial 911 "When did you last see her?"

Girl 1: excitedly "We said we would only hide in the front yards of these three houses and not the back because Sally* is afraid of the dark but Molly* is good at hide & seek..." voice trails off into the darkness as I calmly close my phone and start walking toward the front door.

It reminds me of when I was a little girl, playing hide & seek at night with flashlights, making false missing persons statements. Oh wait, that wasn't me!

Haven't these girls ever heard of Sardines? You can play that inside you know!

Wow. I was going to write about something similar to that...sort of.
