30 Day Writer's Challenge | Day 12

Following the leader, the leader, the leader...

Today I was driving through Kennesaw and some common, never-ending construction. Let me paint the scene for you:

Orange cones on right.
Stay in your lane.
Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

Or so I thought. Four cars in front of me was a construction vehicle. He was driving sluggish and my assumption was he would eventually pull out of our lane and into the construction in the right lane so the rest of us would be able to continue our drive.

Within a matter of a few seconds I saw the construction vehicle pull to the right into the coned off lane beside us. The three vehicles following the truck (driving in front of me) like lonely little lemmings, followed him right into the construction lane. I assumed they realized their mistake when 20 feet later they cautiously pulled back into the appropriate lane in their rightful spot directly in front of me. Idiots.

The construction vehicle was big, huge even and it easily could have managed terrain regular vehicles would struggle with. Wouldn't that have been funny if they had followed it into wet tar or asphalt or maybe off a huge embankment?

Kind of reminds me of the Duke's of Hazzard, they were kind of stupid. And if you are stupid enough to blindly follow the construction vehicle sans the Follow Me sign on its tailgate, you better hope Bo & Luke are hanging out ready to rescue your stupid self. And maybe the rest of us will be lucky enough that Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane will be there to take your license away.
