First National Bank Carlsbad, N.M.

A few days ago I posted this photo with cute little Sea Biscuit chillin out front:

Yes John, you can click on the picture and see by the file name that is is the "First National Bank Building".
Brilliant.

It is in Carlsbad...but maybe the next challenge won't be.

But here are the fun details (pulled from New Mexico Off The Road.)

"The First National Bank Building was built in 1892 on the corner of Canal and Fox Streets and has been home to over a century of history. It was the site of the first bank in southern New Mexico, and its offices were home to the first newspaper in the area. Pat Garrett, the lawman [He was a Lincoln County Sheriff so not sure why he had an office in Carlsbad...which is located in Eddy County] who shot Billy the Kid, had his offices in the building. The outlaws Bonnie and Clyde robbed the bank in the 30’s, leaving behind bullet holes that are still visible today."

Today the building is being/has been renovated into a luxury hotel. Fun stuff! We were just looking for one of those in Carlsbad too!

Wish I had known, I would have stopped by for a photo-op the last time I was in town!
